Classification: The chemical and biological properties of methoxyfenozide, a new insecticidalecdysteroid agonist.
Methoxyfenozide, a substituteddibenzoylhydrazine, is an insecticide that functions by accelerating themoulting process. It acts as an ecdysone agonist or ecdysonoid, substitutingfor the natural insect moulting hormone, 20-hydroxyecdysone. The acute health risksfrom exposure to methoxyfenozide are minimal due toits low mammalian toxicity. ... Methoxyfenozide belongs to thediacylhydrazine class of insecticides and has a novel mode of action. Thechemical mimics the action of the Page 2 molting hormone of Lepidopterous(moths, butterflies) larvae. Methoxyfenozide is adiacylhydrazine and acts as a molt accelerating compound commonly referred toas a MAC. When insects are exposed to methoxyfenozide it is rapidlyabsorbed into the insect's circulatory system and binds with the ecdysonereceptor.
